David Martin, Director of Bands
David C. Martin has been the Director of Bands at University High School in Orange City, Florida since 2010. His responsibilities include conducting three concert bands, three jazz bands, overseeing the Titan Regiment Marching Band, and color guard programs. Prior to his appointment at University High School, he was the Director of Bands at Wesley Chapel High School in Wesley Chapel, Florida for two years. Mr. Martin graduated from the University of South Florida where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Trombone Performance in 2008 and his Master of Music Degree in Trombone Performance in 2010. Some of his teachers included Tom Brantley, Mark Morgan and Keith Oshiro.
The University High School band program is becoming a nationally respected band program with performances at the 2015 Florida Music Educators Association State Conference, the 2016 Midwest International Music Conference, the 2016 Essentially Ellington Finals at the Lincoln Center and 2018 performance at the Music for All National Festival. Mr. Martin received the Outstanding Jazz Educator Award from the National Band Association and continues to serve as a clinician and freelance artist throughout Florida. Mr. Martin also maintains a private studio where his trombone students have been recently accepted to music programs at several major universities across Florida, The University of North Texas and the New England Conservatory. His private studio students consistently win audition in the Florida All State Ensembles and also have been selected for the Music For All National Jazz Band, The National Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Jazz Band. Professional memberships include the Florida Band Master Association, Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, JEN, International Trombone Association, and the National Band Association.
Christy Hobby, Director of Color Guards
Christy Hobby graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and a Minor in General Business. She began color guard in 2005 and would later become a member of the University of South Florida Herd of Thunder and USF Winterguard from 2009-2014, with leadership roles from 2011-2014. She also marched with the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps from 2011-2013. Christy worked for the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps Color Guard in 2015-2019. She has taught at many high schools in the Tampa and Orlando areas since 2010 and has done work with USF School of Music Summer Camps as well. Currently Miss Hobby is the music teacher at Manatee Cove Elementary School in Orange City, Florida.
Kevin Bennett, Percussion Director
Kevin Bennet is the current Drumline Coordinator at University High School. Kevin was born and raised in Orlando, Florida, where he attended Freedom High School as part of the graduating class of 2017. He was also a member of Infinity Percussion’s open class group, Infinity 2, in 2016. Kevin is currently a senior at Stetson University pursuing a bachelor's degree in music education. He is currently an e-board member of Stetson's collegiate chapter of NAfME (National Association for Music Education) where he has served as the treasurer and is now the current president of the chapter. Kevin will graduate from Stetson University in the spring semester of 2021 in hopes of becoming a band director.
